Eva Cassidy: the life, sounds, songs and music of a Songbird

I first heard Eva Cassidy in late 2006 and I was blown away with the purity of her voice.  I immediately bought some of her albums and singles and I have enjoyed many hours of pleasure listening to her on my Ipod and my computer.  Eva died at the age of 33 in 1996 of a melanoma and has only been discovered since her death.  Many great songwriters and musicians have acclaimed her music.  I am writing this lens as a tribute to Eva's legacy.  I hope you too enjoy the clarity, the depth and the beauty of her music. Eva's music is truly inspiring and very moving.

This video reveals Eva's true inner spirit and her love of music. It shows her thoughtfulness and desire to share. It is a poignant and moving summary of her life and her intense sensitivity and insight. The backing music is Eva singing her trademark song, "Fields of Gold".

Danny Boy sung in Eva's unique style is stunning and very moving.

Sting, the songwriter and original singer of Fields of Gold, said the following about Eva's cover of the song:

I mean you might hear someone reinterpreting them and maybe you don't agree with what they've done. But this version was just so pure, so excellent, that I was deeply moved by it, and so happy that she covered it. Live at Blues Alley is the title of one of Eva's albums. YouTube has some great videos of Eva performing at this venue. These must be cherished.

Many people report that this rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow brought tears to their eyes.
